Laura Levitt

I was a little confused during Ms. Levitt's lecture, and a little unsure what the main point was, but I thought some of her ideas were interesting nonetheless. From the title of the lecture, I was expecting a broad history and aftermath overview of the Holocaust and how it has had an effect on Jews today. Instead I felt we were presented with the idea of looking at the Holocaust as individual stories as well as putting it in personal terms in order to try and understand its significance to us as individuals, today. That idea of trying to relate our own histories and anecdotes to those of our ancestors who went through the trauma of the Holocaust is fascinating because it makes us relive our own worst experiences, in a way, yet they seem so insignificant in contrast. Also, I found Ms. Levitt's anecdotes about her own life as well as her father's life irrelevant to the overall gist of the lecture, and was unsure how everything managed to tie in together.
